Woke Woman's Guide to… VAMFF

Posted by Stefanie Kir on

Your 2018 might be off to a slightly sluggish start, but all that’s about to change when VAMFF comes to town once again. The annual fashion festival runs from today to 18 March and the full calendar offers up a huge range of events, discussions and catwalks to suit any fashion sensibilities.

As a woke woman, we know you’re going to want to add a few ethically-minded events to your VAMFF calendar so you can get your fashion fix while doing some great things in the world too.

Fashion as a force for good

While the rest of the world has been glued to Facebook, Jeremy Meltzer has gone out and developed a tech platform that can revolutionise the way retailers, brands and customers connect with the people that make their clothes. i=Change partners with brands who in turn give back $1 from every sale.

Hear how Jeremy’s tech has impacted the lives of more than 115,000 people, and learn from the brands that are making waves. (Looking for more ways to make a difference? We give $5 from every sale to clearing a square metre of landmines in the regions we work in!)

Good. – we have a hunch this will be more fun than the name suggests...

Global Fashion Exchange Swap

As a modern fashionista who’s also eco-conscious, you know that Aussies dump 6000kg of old clothes in landfill every ten minutes. And, as a clued-up clothing connoisseur, you want to find a way to look fab while avoiding adding to this ever-growing waste problem.

So how do you make sure you pack your wardrobe with enviro-friendly threads while still keeping on-trend?

You swap, that’s what. Fashion Revolution is sponsoring this nifty event that makes it simple for you to get new clothes in your closet (new to you, at least) without contributing to the growing problem of landfill. Bring 6 seasonally appropriate items that you don’t love anymore and swap them for 6 new ones. You’ll leave with the feel-good glow knowing you did a good thing (for the world and your wardrobe!).
